Hi Andrew, glad to do it :) Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll be pushing out the update that includes it later today.

is NDI output from simmetri as a camera or viewport built in as well? I was having some pretty bad lag using spout into Resolume, which is one of the reasons i hoped to NDI added

So the process of setting up outputs (to NDI etc) has changed a little in the update but the main idea is you bind them off of Displays.

The pipeline is: Camera renders as a layer into a ViewPort. A ViewPort renders into a Display. A Display is rendered out to outputs like NDI.

Surprising regarding lag. NDI needs to encode/compress video data which is necessary for network transmission but overkill for local app sharing vs Spout that simply shares texture data. Once you try the update, definitely get back to us regarding your tests and lag issues and we’ll try to figure out what’s going on.

so I have to output to a screen, then capture that screen with NDI scan converter and then bring that into whatever program i want?

I will test it out later. thanks again for the updates and responses

A Display is the term Simmetri uses to define an output. It's not an actual monitor display. So, from the Display you'll be able to bind directly to NDI (no physical screen rendering required, though rendering to a multi-monitor is an output option as well). We'll explain all when we push the update.

I did some testing today and found that the the new 3.0 versions of VLC are not playing nicely with NDI, the latest one i could get working smoothly with VLC to NDI is the latest 2.8 version of VLC.

Did you encounter a challenge with VLC where it streamed out through NDI a static green texture -- when the VLC playlist was set to loop? We noticed this...
