Hi Jesse, hmm, it seems as if Simmetri is not receiving notice of a button being pressed on the controller. I’m assuming the tutorial you are referring to is the Intro To VR interactive tutorial (accessed via the Learn menu). The tutorial also has you setting up a controller button on the right hand to attract objects. Does that button work?

Yes, the VR intro was the project I was in.

I couldn't get either button to work on either controller, I even tried some of the other (Explore) VR demos and no luck with buttons or triggers...though gaze worked ok (I modded a couple of the demos to work with gaze just to see what they did).

Lasers point and the orbs move just no button data (Fly, grab, attract) it seems.

Another question: do you have the Windows Mixed Reality For SteamVR app installed? Also to confirm, you own the HP - Mixed Reality Headset? Also, do inputs work correctly in other apps/games?

Yes, I verified steam VR is active when the game is in VR mode and my HP MR 1440 is active.  Yes, other WMR games on steam VR that use the controllers do work (Tilt brush etc...)

Just as an observation I once did download a game demo that was only for Vive and it acted similarly in that I could see the controllers move and the head tracking worked but no buttons on the handset worked.

It might be related to this thread:

Regardless, if you can bear with me, I'm going to order the HP headset to be able to test directly with it. I'll get back to you when I can figure out what's going on. Hopefully sometime next week I'll know more. Apologies for the issue.

    Hi Jesse,

Update: I received the HP headset and tested (under both regular and beta tracks of SteamVR and Steam's Windows Mixed Reality) and I can't seem to reproduce your issue. For me, controllers track and the buttons work.

If you have a moment, let's try to see if the buttons work if we manually bind.

    1. Create a new scene (File/New)
    2. From the toolbox panel, select 'vr \ ar' from the top list
    3. Select 'vr rig (preset) from the bottom list
    4. Click in the space to create the VR Rig
    5. Right-click to exit draw mode
    6. Ensure you are in VR mode by clicking the VR button (next to minimize) at the top right. Wait for controllers to begin tracking in Simmetri.
    7. Under the Edit menu, select Preferences
    8. Click the 'inputs' tab on the Preferences panel
    9. From the left list, select Right Hand Controller
    10. From the right list, select Index Trigger

Now, check to see what the 'Assigned Input' is. It should say something like 'VR Controller Right Index Trigger' Now let's see what happens if we manually bind it.

    1. Click the 'set' button
    2. Press the index trigger of your Right Hand controller

Simmetri should exit 'press a control' mode and show the 'Assigned Input' as VR Controller Right Index Trigger. Let me know what you find. Note that Steam continually updates their SteamVR software, so they might eventually issue an update that resolves this (or maybe already have).

Thanks so much for the help! Going through this list I can confirm things are now working great with Windows MR. I'm so happy, time to make fun things in VR.

    Cheers,

    - Jesse
